In recent years, stress has been a serious problem of people’s modern daily lives because of their terrible situations which facing too much deadlines, demands, frustrations and hassles. The body react to the changes that caused by stress with physical and mental response. As it is said that stress is a double edged sword. A good method to relieve the high-paced society stress could make people’s today’s lives not only better but also easier.
So, what is stress and what is the best way to combat stress? people should have a better understanding of these two questions. This essay talks about the definition of stress in the first part and then talks about three different methods about stress management below.

1. The definition of stress
It is not easy to find a simple definition of the word “stress”. This word meas different things to different people in different period. Generally, stress is mental pressure or physical pressure that caused by problems in people’s daily lives, stress is a feeling, that is created when people react to particular events. It’s the body’s way of rising to a challenge and preparing to meet a tough situation with focus, strength, stamina, and heightened alertness. Now here is an example of workplace stressors, that from Spiders’ book .
In simple terms, work-related stress can occur when there is an imbalance between the requirement of the job and the ability of the employee (using the resource available to them) to complete it; and the level of control ?if any?that employees have over the way that their work is carried out. He mentioned that there are seven key factors identified by the Health & Safety Executive ?HSE (2001)?as being the likely causes of excessive pressure and the resultant stress. They are demand, control, culture, relationship, change, role and support, and factors unique to the individual. A figure about balancing demand and resources next showed that work imbalance between Demands of job and Resources, ability and control would cause stress. For more, demand can be caused by work overload, work underload and physical environment.

2. Three different methods of stress management

In the 1970s, Meichenbaum developed an interest in the multicomponent coping skills approach as a potentially effective therapeutic strategy as his other contemporaries in the same period. After a collection from Meichenbaum and his associates’ review of the stress literature, they incorporated the several guidelines into the development of coping skills treatment program, that one of them is called the Stress Inoculation Training (SIT).
