How must marketing mix be adapted to meet the needs of an overseas market,provide suitable examples from the indian market.
When launching a product into foreign markets you have to adapt your marketing mix to the foreign market. You have to take into consideration consumers cultural background, buying habits, levels of personal disposable income etc in order to deliver a tailored marketing mix program to suit their needs.
After US and China India is the largest consumer market in the world. As Indian consumers became more aware of trends and advancements in technology, they began to demand similar sophistication. More important, they wanted products built to their needs. Consequently big brands have to customise their products according the taste and life style of the Indians.
A number of factors have to be taken into account while adapting our marketing mix to the Indian market .Given that Indians are sensitive, have strong traditional beliefs and there are still many orthodox families. It is also important to consider the literary of the Indian consumers.
It’s a fact that a large chunk of the Indian consumers are considered the middle class families. Consequently the products have to be priced so that they are affordable to the middle class citizens. For example the price of a combo Mc Donald burger should be competitive enough to find its place among the traditional & affordable fast foods like ‘Pav Bhaji’,’pani puri’, ‘masala dosa’ or ‘chicken tandoori’ just to name few.
I believe when it’s a food product, then extra considerations have to be taken so that the products adapt to the Indian tastes and cultures. The Indian touch have to be incorporated to the end products.
For example, Indians love hot and spicy foods. So there need to be a variety of burgers which are spicy.
Furthermore a significant number of Indians are vegetarian by choice or for religious reasons, and strict taboos remain on the mingling of vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods in the same kitchen or on the same table. Consequently, the company ensured that the beliefs of its future customers are respected. Vegetarian products should be prepared with dedicated equipment and utensils and, in some cases, by a separate workforce. All food should be cooked in vegetable oil, and the mayonnaise and other sauces should not contain egg.
