In this report, the researcher has discussed the key aspects of learning and development which can be applied in the organizations which are operating in the today’s business world. Learning and development is an important function of organizational Human Resource Management System which focuses on enhancing the performances of the employees working within the organization (Chang and Chen 2002). The importance of learning and development activities has been significantly increases over the period of time because various studies shows that effective learning and development activities of the organization can create a huge impact on the organizational profitability. This is one of the reasons that the modern organizations nowadays are investing significantly in the learning and development activities (Gond and Herrbach 2006). The learning and development practices are also very important for the firm as it help the management of the organization to achieve the goals and objectives effectively and efficiently. According to Cordingley (2007), the learning and development managers need to ensure that learning and development practices of the firm should support the business goals and objectives. Worley (2004) discusses the importance of learning and development and mentions that increasing trend of globalization and rising competition have increased pressures on the organizations and they are required to improve the skills and abilities of the staff members in order to enhance the internal capabilities which is essential to overcome the business related challenges and remain competitive.

Effective communication is an important aspect of learning and development (Hattie and Timperley 2007). The managers in the modern business world need to focus on improving the communication of the team members working within the firm (Kincaid and Gordick 2003). Research shows that effective learning activities within the organization are important in order to ensure the smooth processing of the business operations (Stein and Nelson 2003). It improves the coordination among the team members which creates a positive impact on the business outcomes (McLean 2005). The learning and development activities which can be helpful in improving the communication of the team members result in enhanced performance of the organization (VanVelsor and McCauley 2004). This is more important for the organizations which are operating in the customer’s services industry and employees of the firm are in direct contact with the customer (Chang and Chen 2002).
