Introduction
Knowledge in the context of an organization refers to important information the company has or is in search of which it can use to meet the goals for its existence in the corporate world. This information otherwise called knowledge must be managed for maximum productivity to be realized from it. Knowledge management therefore entails making critical decisions on knowledge for an organization, e.g. selecting, supplementing, evaluating and implementing knowledge into practical use to meet the targets set for it.
This research looks at how an organization should mange its knowledge and the importance of this kind of management to the organization in a case study format, considering an organization NTPC.
This paper will perceive knowledge management as the controlling, measuring, evaluating, and implementation process for the information used in the company to attain the organization’s goals to the maximum. For this paper, a knowledge management plan is a document that lays the strategy for the organization, showing how it will manage its knowledge to realize its existence objectives. Through the plan too, the organization sources the knowledge it needs and for this reason, the plan should also outline the sources of the knowledge.
The importance of knowledge management for an organization is that through it, organizations are able to generate information and make it be well understood by all the players in the organization before implementing the provisions of the organization. In order to facilitate the usefulness of Knowledge management, one cannot rule out the need top have a proper and efficient system that will facilitate the circulation of information from one person to the other within the organization. Given an organization such as NTPC, Knowledge Management will squarely depend on the Information System as the company has more f service based products than tangible products.
