Much of the research into the effect of diets on the risk of developing heart disease is using food diaries which allow the person to record everything they ate and at what times. This allows the team to work out what things are causing an increase in the levels of cholesterol as they are asked to take a reading of the levels one hour after they have eaten this will allow the doctor to gain an accurate picture of the effects of different varieties of food on levels of cholesterol present and if this effect can be attributed to a specific group of food stuffs.

The other method of determining what effects food has to increase or decrease the risk of heart disease is using data which shows the levels of cholesterol of different foods and comparing them with data showing what a patient suffering from the disease already had eaten a large quantity of in their life and this would show what impact eating certain types of food in high quantities can have on the human body.

Studies have shown that people who have similar ethnic background and similar levels if age and activity but radically different diets would show why the chances of developing any form of heart disease if it is not present in the family is drastically reduced if a limited number of animal product research into the effect on being a vegetarian compared to not (Pennsylvania state university) has shown that the levels of cholesterol present where a lot higher for those who ate large quantities of animal products compared to the vegetarian. This showed that animal products can cause higher levels of cholesterol and can therefore increase the risk of heart disease.

The research gathered using the food diary has a number of flaws with it as a result of all the research relying on the participant filling in the data correctly mistakes will be made as a result of many factors. The participant will on occasions forget to fill in the diary and therefore make up what they have or lie regarding quantise or fail to record every snake they have taken. This area of research makes it difficult to discover wheatear or not the issue is down to food as it gives no indication of levels of exercise and increased levels of stress when the blood pressure and cholesterol levels was take as a result the reliability of the ...
