This essay is for AS Level sports studies and is a essay on "do nice guys always finish last?". Both aspects are looked at, whether they do or dont.

Nice guys can succeed in many sports; the main sports they achieve in are solo sports which are non-aggressive and non-contact. Jonathan Edwards is a ‘nice guy’ and he has succeeded in the triple jump and working in television after his career was over because of his attitude and pleasant persona. Another example would be the Namibia sprinter Frankie Frederic’s, who finally won a gold medal in the 2002 commonwealth games. The athlete pays his own airfares to compete, a lovely guy who always gave his best.

A prime example of a nice guy would be Colin Montgomerie who has had 27 European Tour wins and 6 Ryder cups, a gentleman of the game. Consistently ranked amongst the world’s best golfers since moving into the top 10 of the World Rankings in 1994. 1999 produced a record equalling five victories in Europe and he was never outside the Top 20 in any tournament. This is evidence of the fact that Colin rightly proved himself to be the most consistent golfer in the world during the 1990’s. He has had 37 tournament victories around the world and is one of the most recognisable sportsmen in the game, as well as being seen as an ambassador for Scottish, British and European golf.
