“Speed is incredibly important to us and by working with Barclaycard and Commidea we're able to install an efficient contactless system to give our customers a quicker method of payment and an improved customer experience. The new system has been received well so far and we have committed to rolling out contactless across our entire network.” Simon Hargraves, Director of Food and Communications, Pret A Manger
Pret A Manger, with many of its stores based in the city centre, can accumulate a heavy stream of customers, particularly at lunchtimes. Commidea’s contactless solution offers them an efficient way to pay for low-value goods, reducing queue times and improving customer experience.
Pret A Manger boasts over 150 stores across the UK and overseas, with its premises taking up to £25,000 a day. During busy periods, such as lunchtime, the counter activity can be hectic, so Pret A Manger needed a solution to reduce queues and improve the speed and efficiency of transactions.
An initial trial was carried out over seven stores across London, and following the success of this trial a phased roll-out took place across 171 stores. Working with Barclaycard and Commidea, the contactless system was integrated with Commidea's existing Chip & PIN solution and Pret A Manger's EPoS system.
Contactless payment systems offer Pret A Manger and their customers a fast and convenient way to process transactions under £15, and improve customer experience.
The new system is expected to increase footfall due to smaller queues. Furthermore, previous analysis has shown contactless to increase the average transaction value as customers are not limited by the amount of cash they are carrying.
For Pret A Manger, the solution also frees up staff time, allowing them to focus on
other aspects of customer service. Plus, with the outlets taking fewer cash payments, less time is spent cashing up.
Commidea’s innovative solution includes a contactless payment reader connected to a PIN Pad. This, in turn, is connected to a Windows PC based PoS, which runs Commidea's Ocius for PCs Chip & PIN software.
The Ocius for PCs software consists of just one CD, which, once installed on the PoS,
has the unique advantage of utilising the PoS processor, rather than a traditional Chip and PIN terminal, to power through transactions in seconds. Receipts are printed via the PoS printer to further streamline the system and provide retailers, such as Pret A Manger, with an efficient route to card payment acceptance.
Payment processing is provided by Commidea’s ICP hosted credit card processing system. With an advanced web based reporting tool to analyse card payment transactions, and peace of mind provided by the large technical support team, it completes the cycle to create a total card payment processing solution.
